Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller – Episode 3: The Oracle (PC) is the third and penultimate instalment in the Erica Reed series of episodic point-and-click adventure games created by Phoenix Online Studios. Following on directly from Episode 2 (which Alternative Magazine Online described as “a masterfully woven point-and-click adventure thriller”), players must once again take control of Boston-based FBI agent Erica Reed as she tracks down a killer – and this time, players will also take control of the killer too!

GAME REVIEW – The Cave (PC)

The Cave

The Cave is a downloadable 2.5D platform-adventure video game developed by Double Fine Productions and distributed by Sega, released in January 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC (Steam). The game’s producer is none other than Ron Gilbert, the legendary game designer behind such classic adventures as Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. Based on an idea Gilbert had over 20 years ago, players must select three unique characters before descending into a cave that eerily reflects their darkest personality traits.

GAME REVIEW – Gemini Rue (iPhone)

Gemini Rue is an award-winning science fiction adventure game created by independent developer Joshua Nuernberger. Originally released for PC in 2011, the game has now been ported by Wadjet Eye Games to iOS devices. Players take control of Azriel Odin, an ex-assassin with a dark past, and Delta-Six aka Charlie, a memory-wiped prisoner trapped within a secret facility deep in space.

GAME REVIEW – BioShock Infinite (PlayStation 3)

BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games. Although BioShock Infinite is the third game in the BioShock series, it is actually a spiritual successor to the original BioShock (BioShock 2 was developed by a different team without the involvement of Irrational’s creative lead Ken Levine, who returns here), as well as being a standalone game in its own right. Taking place in 1912 within the floating city of Columbia, players take control of disgraced ex-Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt as he attempts to track down a mysterious young woman named Elizabeth, a message repeating over and over again in his head: bring us the girl and wipe away the debt.
