FILM REVIEW – Winter In Wartime

By Marty Mulrooney

WinterInWartime

Winter In Wartime is a Dutch film from 2008, directed by Martin Koolhoven and based on the novel of the same name by Jan Terlouw. A huge success in the Netherlands (where it even out-grossed The Dark Knight) it was most recently featured at the Academy Awards, where it was shortlisted (alongside 8 other movies) in the section for Best Foreign Language Film. Winter In Wartime is finally getting a DVD/Blu-ray release in the United Kingdom this month. The wait has been worthwhile.

FEATURE ARTICLE – Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust, R.I.P Gene Hunt

AshestoAshes

Life On Mars was always going to be a tough act to follow. It fast became one of the most critically acclaimed and best loved British television shows of the Noughties upon release, no doubt due in no small part to John Simm’s highly endearing portrayal of central protagonist DCI Sam Tyler. The final episode of Ashes to Ashes aired last Friday and it was absolutely incredible. Hopefully, I can now share a little bit of that magic with AMO’s readers by offering my thoughts on the ending. Warning: Spoilers.

GAME REVIEW – Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, Episode 2 – The Tomb Of Sammun-Mak

By Marty Mulrooney

episode2

Those wonderful individuals at Telltale Games have done it again! The new series of Sam & Max started out strong with the release of Episode 1: The Penal Zone last month, but I never imagined in a million years that Episode 2 would trump that prior outing so quickly. Yet, with The Tomb Of Sammun-Mak, they may well have done just that. Ladies and gentleman, the bar for this brand new series featuring our favourite crime solving anthropomorphic dog and his hyperkinetic rabbity thing sidekick has just been raised!
