GAME REVIEW – The Last Guardian (PlayStation 4)

By Marty Mulrooney

The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian is an action-adventure game developed by genDESIGN and Japan Studio, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Designed and directed by legendary video game designer Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus), the game was originally announced way back in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Following numerous delays and a lack of updates from Sony, there was genuine concern that the project had been cancelled.  However, The Last Guardian was finally released in December 2016 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. Only one question remains… was it worth the seven year wait?

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Rolf Saxon (George Stobbart, Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse)

Rolf Saxon Interview - Broken Sword 5

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse is a point-and-click adventure game created by British game developer Revolution Software. In 2013, the studio raised $771,560 (over $823,000 including PayPal donations) via Kickstarter to create the latest instalment in the classic Broken Sword series, which was eventually released as two episodes. Alternative Magazine Online’s review of the first episode described The Serpent’s Curse as “not only an excellent new instalment in the series, but an excellent adventure game full stop.” Broken Sword 5 was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September 2015, making the game available to a whole new audience. It seemed like the perfect time to catch up with the charming man behind the voice of the series’ much-loved protagonist George Stobbart. AMO is therefore delighted to present an exclusive online interview with American actor Rolf Saxon.

GAME REVIEW – The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PlayStation 4)

By Marty Mulrooney

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is, in the developer’s own words, ‘a first-person mystery game focused on exploration and discovery’. Players take control of paranormal investigator Paul Prospero as he journeys to Red Creek Valley, Wisconsin. The year is 1973 and a young boy named Ethan Carter has written a disturbing fan letter, prompting Prospero to set out on a mission to find the missing boy. Upon arrival, he’s greeted by a ghost town abandoned for well over a decade, and a series of local murders that all tie in to a dark family secret. Originally released on PC in 2014, this “console first” PlayStation 4 exclusive is the first Unreal Engine 4 version of the game (the earlier PC version used Unreal Engine 3) and features numerous improvements.
