With the Heavy Rain demo arriving on the PSN network this Thursday (in the UK at least) I thought it would be a good idea to give AMO’s readers some brief thoughts on what it offers players and how well it bodes for the full release of the game which is due out at the end of the month.

Blue Toad Murder Files is a new downloadable episodic gaming series from Relentless Software, perhaps most well known for their hugely popular ‘Buzz!’ series of video games.
Much like the ‘Buzz!’ games, Blue Toad Murder Files has a focus on accessibility, fun and group gaming. The first two episodes have just been released separately and also in a bundle on the PSN (for PS3)… so how do they measure up?

Before I review what is surely the biggest release of the month (if not the year), I must first set the scene. Although the PC is where I started as a gamer, it was the Playstation where I ultimately ended up, at least 90% of the time anyway. I have never strayed to other consoles (although I did dabble with the GameCube somewhat), and nowadays my Playstation 3 is a constant daily source of entertainment for me, echoing backwards through the gaming years of my PS2 and PS1 days.
Every single successful gaming console has risen or fallen based on not only the quality of the games on offer, but the level of brand recognition afforded by first party developers. Sega had Sonic, Nintendo had Mario, Microsoft had Master Chief. Playstation had several potential candidates, ranging from Crash Bandicoot to Solid Snake. Yet I would argue it was only with the PS3’s launch, and ‘the little game that could’ known as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, that we finally got a mascot that screamed exclusivity, immense production values and genuine charm. Many British PS3 gamers will face something of a dilemma this coming Friday (16th October 2009). This is because two major releases are occurring on the same day: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves by Naughty Dog and Brutal Legend by Double Fine Productions. So if you only have money for one game this Friday, which should it be?
