GAME REVIEW – Anna’s Quest (PC)

Alternative Magazine Online reviewed Anna’s Quest Vol. 1: Winfriede’s Tower – created by Australian game developer Dane Krams – in 2012, describing it as “indie adventure gaming at its finest.” In a follow-up interview that same year, Mr Krams revealed his plan to release two more ‘volumes’, completing the game as a trilogy. Instead, in 2014 it was announced that Krams Design had teamed up with Daedalic Entertainment to finish the project and release it as one complete adventure game – something that wasn’t originally possible at the time. The finished result is simply titled Anna’s Quest and was released in summer 2015. Grab your keyboard and mouse brave adventurer: it’s finally time to save young Anna’s grandpa and defeat the evil witch Winfriede once and for all!

Alternative Magazine Online recently reviewed Tales from the Borderlands: Episode 4 – Escape Plan Bravo, writing how “the incredible performances, stylised art direction and accomplished dramatic storytelling – treading the fine line between on-target comedy and outright slapstick – is an achievement well worth shouting about.” One of the aforementioned incredible performances comes from one of AMO’s favourite regular interviewees: she voiced Molly and Bonnie in The Walking Dead and Snow White in The Wolf Among Us. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is, in the developer’s own words, ‘a first-person mystery game focused on exploration and discovery’. Players take control of paranormal investigator Paul Prospero as he journeys to Red Creek Valley, Wisconsin. The year is 1973 and a young boy named Ethan Carter has written a disturbing fan letter, prompting Prospero to set out on a mission to find the missing boy. Upon arrival, he’s greeted by a ghost town abandoned for well over a decade, and a series of local murders that all tie in to a dark family secret. Originally released on PC in 2014, this “console first” PlayStation 4 exclusive is the first Unreal Engine 4 version of the game (the earlier PC version used Unreal Engine 3) and features numerous improvements.
