The Journey Down: Chapter Three is the third and final chapter of the wonderful African art inspired point-and-click adventure game The Journey Down, created by independent Swedish studio SkyGoblin. Its release marks the end of an epic journey that began with the original free (low-res retro) version in 2010 (“there is artistry amidst its pixels, beauty within the world portrayed”), continuing with The Journey Down: Chapter One in 2012 (“any self-respecting adventure gamer owes it to themselves to experience this game”) and The Journey Down: Chapter Two in 2014 (“an indie endeavour that successfully captures the soul and spirit of the 90s adventure game”). In short, Chapter Three had two (or three) tough acts to follow.

By Marty Mulrooney

In 2011, Alternative Magazine Online reviewed a freeware indie point-and-click adventure game called The Journey Down: Over The Edge, describing it as “one of the most essential adventure gaming experiences of the past few years.” AMO then went on to exclusively interview the game’s soundtrack composer Simon D’souza, as well as the game’s creator Theodor Waern. In the latter interview, Theodor revealed his plans to create “a commercial, high res version” of the game. The Journey Down: Chapter One – HD is now finally with us in 2012 and AMO can confirm that is has been worth the wait. This is everything an indie adventure game should be.

GAME REVIEW – The Journey Down: Over The Edge

By Marty Mulrooney

TheJourneyDown

The Journey Down: Over The Edge is a point-and-click adventure game created by Theodor Waern, with music by Simon De Souza. Five years in the making, this isn’t just any freeware Adventure Game Studio project either. Over The Edge has been put together so expertly that one could be forgiven for thinking that it is in fact a long lost LucasArts classic from the glory days of the adventure gaming genre. There is artistry amidst its pixels, beauty within the world portrayed. Welcome to The Journey Down.
