BOOK REVIEW – Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton

Over the winter holidays, I sat down with a few days off to read the latest book from HarperCollins Publishers, Pirate Latitudes by the late (and truly great) Michael Crichton. The tale revolves around a crew of privateers stealing a sizable treasure from under the noses of the Spanish guarding it. Do not, whatever you do, expect a story of banter and booze, parrying swords or armies of floating corsairs. Pirate Latitudes, written by Crichton before his death in 2008, is a story of blood, mud and sacrifice, and relentless storms waiting to crush those who sail the ocean unprepared.

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Dacre Stoker (Author Of Dracula: The Un-Dead)

Alternative Magazine Online’s latest interview is a very special one indeed! I recently had the unique opportunity to speak to Dacre Stoker, co-author of new book Dracula: The Un-Dead (along with Stoker historian Ian Holt), published by our friends at HarperCollins here in the UK, and E. P. Dutton in the US.

For those unaware Dacre Stoker, a Canadian citizen and resident of the U.S., is the great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker. Yes that’s right, the Bram Stoker who wrote classic horror novel Dracula in 1897, changing our perceptions of the mythological vampire forever! Continue reading

Hey everyone! If you are reading this, then congratulations. You are one of the increasingly large number of people who visits Alternative Magazine Online on a regular basis. You are the lifeblood of this whole experiment in offering something set slightly aside from the mainstream!

Today marks a very special day for the site, and for myself personally. That is because today, the site hits 6 months of age! I would have never thought all that time ago, not even graduated from university yet, that the site would grow so rapidly, or get such a wide variety of visitors and collaborators.
