GAME REVIEW – Red Dead Redemption (PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360)

With AMO still growing every day, it is sometimes difficult for us to get our gaming reviews out the door as quickly as we would like, especially with huge titles such as Red Dead Redemption. On the plus side, this can often give us a far more extensive amount of time than our competitors to fully complete a game and offer a clearheaded verdict once the hype-leaden dust clouds have settled. For players who have already finished the game and newcomers finally ready to bite the bullet, this multi-format review will cover RDR’s single and multiplayer modes in-depth, on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

FILM REVIEW – Toy Story 3 (3D Version)

After languishing in development hell for nearly ten years, Toy Story 3 has finally arrived. Disney’s own Circle 7 Animation tried to do a third sequel without Pixar’s involvement in 2004, but when relationships were patched up in 2006 (Disney actually bought Pixar in January of that year for $7.4 billion) production was halted and the project transferred back to Pixar where it belonged. Four years later, the toys are back in town for one final adventure, this time in Disney Digital 3D.

FEATURE ARTICLE – Spinning Tops and Unicorns: The Ending of Inception

I finally went to see Christopher Nolan’s Inception last night and it blew my mind. I thought it was phenomenal: a big budget science fiction film that deftly manages to grip the minds of a mainstream audience. It is a big film with even bigger ideas. Leonardo DiCaprio is fast becoming one of the finest actors of our generation. Following Shutter Island, it is hard to argue against the fact that he has dominated the silver screen in 2010, mixing natural charisma with genuine humanity. Yet after Inception finished, I knew the one thing on people’s minds and lips as they left the cinema would undoubtedly be the ending… (Warning: Spoilers!)

GAME REVIEW – Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, Episode 4 – Beyond The Alley Of The Dolls

The penultimate episode of Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse has finally arrived. Regular readers of AMO will remember that I was slightly disappointed with last month’s effort, feeling that the latter parts of the game were rather safe and cookie cutter. Thankfully, the cliff-hanger ending certainly made up for any prior misgivings, indicating that the next instalment would be a much stronger endeavour. It was therefore with great anticipation that I loaded up Sam & Max’s latest adventure, Beyond The Alley Of The Dolls…
