GAME REVIEW – Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People (Nintendo Wii)

By Stewie Sutherland

Strong-Bad

Telltale Game’s first attempt at making a game for a console (alongside a PC version),  Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People did one of two things: if you were like me, you probably saw it and thought it looked bright and funny, maybe staring a wrestler with a Mexican accent and involving all kinds of shenanigans. For anyone who would spare a bit of time to check out Homestarrunner.com though, it was a dream come true. And so, while it may be a bit late, let’s take a look  back at The Brother Chaps’ and Telltale Games’ joint game “for cool and attractive people – but you can play too!”

GAME PREVIEW – Transformers: War For Cybertron (All Platforms)

By Stewie Sutherland

TransformersWFC

If there’s a franchise that’s been retold over and over again it’s the story of the Transformers. In their 25 year lifespan they’ve had stories of beast wars and machine battles on Earth and in space. One series may have heroic leader Optimus Prime take the form of a semi-trailer fighting a planet-sized villain and in the next he’ll be a fire truck that combines with his tough-guy brother Ultra Magnus. He’s been a big gorilla that’s played King Kong with T-rex Megatron and won time and time again, and recently he’s returned to the silver screen to tear bad guys apart and draw attention away from Megan Fox’s lacklustre acting.

GAME REVIEW – Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

By Stewie Sutherland

SMG_Cover

Why am I reviewing a game that came out more than two years ago?  Because Super Mario Galaxy is (to date) the greatest game on the Nintendo Wii. Case closed. Released in 2007 as a Christmas title, the game has sold over 8 million copies, won a BAFTA award for Game of the Year and is hailed by Guinness World Records as Number 29 of their ‘50 Must Own Console Games’.

GAME REVIEW – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)

By Marty Mulrooney

Those who know me well will attest to the following: I am a big wuss when it comes to scary films and video games. Which is actually quite odd, as I was reading Stephen King’s The Shining at age 10 without even thinking twice. I love horror novels, but scary games are often played for a while and then left on a shelf gathering dust where they can’t hurt me. Yet having recently bitten the horror gaming bullet by playing both Dead Space and Resident Evil 5 on PS3 despite my low scare threshold, I decided Silent Hill: Shattered Memories would be my next tentative step into the world of interactive horror…

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Guy “Yug” Blomberg, Co-creator / Founder of Mana Bar

By Stewie SutherlandThe Mana Bar

There’s nothing better than going to your favourite club, is there? The atmosphere is golden, the patrons are familiar and when it’s your friend’s shout you can just tell them “the usual” and know what you’ll be getting. Now imagine if you could have the same thing, only with Xbox 360’s and Nintendo Wii’s replacing the usual spirits and ales. Sounds good, doesn’t it? It was this slick, outside-the-box idea that created Mana Bar, soon to be Australia’s first video game bar set in the city of Brisbane, the Sunshine State.  Despite being hard at work getting everything ready for it’s opening, Mana Bar’s Guy “Yug” Blomberg kindly granted AMO an interview to talk about this awesome new concept…

ALTERNATIVE MUSINGS – 2010: Nintendo’s Striking Year

By Stewie Sutherland

nintendo-logo

Frequent readers of Alternative Magazine Online know that we do our best to cover all mediums when it comes to games. Duncan has put some of the Xbox 360’s best games under the microscope, while Matt researches hot portable and PC titles, and our editor and site owner Marty has reviewed some of the Playstation 3’s must-have titles this year. This usually leaves yours truly covering the Nintendo side of things (though now that Marty has gotten himself a brand new Wii, I might just convert him yet!) and it’s a job I enjoy quite a bit!

That said, we’ve only got a few short weeks until Christmas ’09, so most people already have their shopping lists sorted. Yep, it’s that magical time of the year where toy ad’s run around the clock, people meet with their strange elderly relatives they see once every two years and in my house, the electric bill soars from putting up too many lights. Still though, if you’re a fan of Nintendo’s stronger names, then 2010 will be a big year. (And not just because we can stop saying that really long “two thousand and…” biz).

REVIEW – Nintendo Wii Limited Edition Console Bundle With Sports Resort Pack

By Marty Mulrooney

Okay, so I am a total hypocrite. After years of ranting about how the Nintendo Wii isn’t a real games console, I went and bought one. A black limited edition Wii no less, perfectly matching my launch 60gb PS3. Here are my thoughts:
