GAME REVIEW – Papo & Yo (PSN)

Papo & Yo is a downloadable puzzle-platforming adventure for the PlayStation Network that marks the debut release of Montreal-based studio Minority. Players take control of a young boy named Quico as he tries to save his best friend, Monster. A gentle, docile beast with a love of yellow fruit, Monster has a serious problem: he is addicted to eating frogs. Once he does so, he turns into a flaming, raging beast that only wants to attack people. Together, Quico and Monster must journey through a colourful and constantly shifting favela in search of a cure before it’s too late. Papo & Yo was released on the PlayStation Network in Europe on the 15th August 2012.

GAME REVIEW – Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (PC, 2006)

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is an adventure game created by legendary game designer Ragnar Tørnquist and released by Norwegian developer Funcom in 2006 for Xbox and Windows PC. The sequel to 1999’s The Longest Journey (released in 2000 in the UK), Dreamfall takes place 10 years after the events of the first game in the year 2219. Players must help 20-year-old Casablanca resident Zoë Castillo as she attempts to save April Ryan – The Longest Journey’s original protagonist – and track down her missing boyfriend.

GAME REVIEW – To The Moon (PC, UK Retail Edition)

Alternative Magazine Online reviewed indie RPG/adventure game To The Moon towards the end of last year, describing it as “yet another shining example of an indie developer, free from the shackles of a mainstream gaming studio, weaving pure magic.” Created by Kan Gao and Freebird Games, the game tasks players with controlling two doctors – Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts – as they rewrite the memory of an elderly man named Johnny, whose dying wish is to go to the moon… On the 6th July 2012, Lace Mamba Global released the retail edition of To The Moon throughout the UK and Ireland. Priced at a recommended retail price of £14.99, this beautifully packaged retail edition also includes the full game soundtrack on CD.

GAME REVIEW – Hoodwink (PC)

Hoodwink is a cel-shaded point-and-click adventure game created by Kuala Lumpur based indie developer E-One Studio. Players take on the role of Michael Bezzle (M. Bezzle – get it?), an acquisitions expert – aka small time thief – who is trying to propose to his girlfriend in a futuristic city ruled by the all-powerful corporation Unicorp. Although it isn’t explicitly stated, Hoodwink is the first episode of an episodic series and is available exclusively on PC via EA’s Origin service.
