In 2011, Alternative Magazine Online interviewed legendary adventure game designer Jane Jensen about her latest game Gray Matter, which we described in our review as being “destined to become an adventure gaming classic.” In 2012, Jane announced the formation of Pinkerton Road, a new independent studio devoted to developing adventure games with “deep and compelling storylines.” The studio will be partly funded via Kickstarter – you can help them reach their $300,000 funding goal by clicking here. Jane Jensen is a game designer who needs no introduction. AMO recently caught up with the legendary creator of the Gabriel Knight trilogy to discuss her latest offering, Gray Matter. An interactive mystery featuring a unique blend of fact and fiction, the game revolves around an American magician, Samantha Everett, and a reclusive neurobiologist, Dr. David Styles, as they face paranormal activity in Oxford, England. Not only was Jane kind enough to answer our many questions, she even shared some exclusive artwork too!

GAME REVIEW – Gray Matter (PC)

Gray Matter heralds the long-awaited return of Gabriel Knight creator Jane Jensen to the point-and-click adventure genre. Taking place in Oxford, England, players must take control of Samantha Everett, an American magician, and Dr. David Styles, a reclusive neurobiologist, as they unravel a complex plot where science and magic clash with paranormal phenomena. Originally announced in 2003 as Project Jane-J, the game saw numerous delays – as well as a change of developer – before finally seeing its English release in 2011. But was the long wait worthwhile?

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Robert Holmes (Composer, Gray Matter Soundtrack/Gabriel Knight Series)

Robert Holmes is an American composer best known for his work at Sierra Online, where he composed the music for the Gabriel Knight series of adventure games created by Jane Jensen (his wife) throughout the 90’s. Most recently, he contributed to the soundtrack of Jensen’s long-awaited adventure game Gray Matter, both as composer of the general score and as a musician with his band The Scarlet Furies. It therefore goes without saying that AMO is delighted to present an exclusive interview with Robert where we discuss this project, the Gabriel Knight series and more!
