TV REVIEW – Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 7 Episode 1

By Marty Mulrooney

*Warning! Due to the nature of the show, this review may contain mild spoilers.*

Episode 1: Funkhouser’s Crazy Sister

Curb Your Enthusiasm recently returned to the US after a 2 year gap, and was finally shown here in the UK on E4 last week (the second episode is on tonight.) I was unsure whether to review the show, due to comedy being so subjective. However, I couldn’t help myself so here I am! I will review the first episode now and then try and review tonight’s episode as soon as possible.

For those of you out of the loop, Curb Your Enthusiasm is a comedy show, fully improvised, based around the fictitious life of Seinfeld creator Larry David. Larry is a real person, but the show and the life it portrays are all fake, presented as truth. Anyway, if you haven’t watched the show before, stop reading now! Go and watch it asap as I really do think it is the funniest thing on television (after Peep Show!) Continue reading

GAME REVIEW – Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo Wii)

By Stewie Sutherland

Wii_Fit_Plus titleWhile Sony and Microsoft are boasting the most powerful machines, the richest, state-of-the-art graphics and some of the world’s most innovative software titles to date, Nintendo have branched away from mainstream gaming and established themselves as a true Family console in the process.

This is nothing new of course: family has always been Nintendo’s watchword, a position they’ve been crystal clear on for many years now. Since the happy days of Mario’s platforming adventures, they’ve changed the way people view a “family system”, with motion controls and games that are not just games the latest weapons at their disposal.

And around Christmas of ’07, no product was in demand quite like their “exercise game”, Wii Fit. An outside-the-box idea that quickly grew until it became the third most sold game in history. Now that its sequel Wii Fit Plus (WFP) has become available, I went to pick up my own copy and find out if the latest healthly-lifestyle game could live up to its reputation. Continue reading

GAME REVIEW – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)

By Marty Mulrooney

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Before I review what is surely the biggest release of the month (if not the year), I must first set the scene. Although the PC is where I started as a gamer, it was the Playstation where I ultimately ended up, at least 90% of the time anyway. I have never strayed to other consoles (although I did dabble with the GameCube somewhat), and nowadays my Playstation 3 is a constant daily source of entertainment for me, echoing backwards through the gaming years of my PS2 and PS1 days.

Every single successful gaming console has risen or fallen based on not only the quality of the games on offer, but the level of brand recognition afforded by first party developers. Sega had Sonic, Nintendo had Mario, Microsoft had Master Chief. Playstation had several potential candidates, ranging from Crash Bandicoot to Solid Snake. Yet I would argue it was only with the PS3’s launch, and ‘the little game that could’ known as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, that we finally got a mascot that screamed exclusivity, immense production values and genuine charm.
