MUSIC REVIEW – Recovery by Eminem

We all know the routine by now: “Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?”, “Hi, my name is…”. The man who’s first two major-label albums were eponymous has always been keen to introduce and re-introduce himself to his audience. After the first two albums, both of which were savage, rhythmic and dazzlingly coherent, Eminem descended into something of a rough patch.

He aimed his ire at George Bush and the War On Terror (Mosh), conflicts between fellow rappers (Like Toy Soldiers) and finally lapsed into some truly dreadful self-referential work that bordered on parody (Just Lose It, Without Me). After the tired efforts of the previous two LPs Encore and Relapse, surely the time is right for the comeback of the man who caused such a storm of controversy when he was turned loose on the mainstream consciousness?

GAME REVIEW – Transformers: War For Cybertron (PlayStation 3)

Now that the release date has finally been broken on this title, I can sit back, enjoy a good online rumble and bring the experience to all of AMO’s readers. As someone who has followed the different storylines, universes and timelines of the Transformers since childhood I was pretty intrigued to see what developers High Moon Studios had come up with. Featuring a new take on the original cartoon incarnation, Peter Cullin reprises his role as noble leader Optimus Prime in an effort to save his planet from the threat of Megatron’s rule.

GAME REVIEW – Puzzle Agent

Puzzle Agent is Telltale Games’ first foray into their online ‘pilot’ scheme, where they create a single game episode to see how well it works, with a view for later expansion. I don’t think they could have chosen a better starting point! On a technical level at least, Puzzle Agent is stunning: the artwork of Graham Annable brought to life. But of course, any game with the word ‘puzzle’ in its title had better deliver some solid brainteasers…

“To be or not to be?” That was the question once upon a time but this neat little puzzler will have you scratching your head whilst taking you on a journey of your own mental winter of discontent. In an age where the brainless shoot-em-up reigns supreme, games that really stretch the mind are in short supply. So step forward Hamlet to reclaim the throne that, according to Shakespeare, should rightfully have been his.
