Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror is a point-and-click adventure game that was originally released on PC in 1997 by Revolution Software. Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror – Remastered takes the original game and updates it to run on new operating systems, as well as adding character portraits drawn by legendary English comic book artist Dave Gibbons.

Rolf Saxon is an American actor living in London. He has appeared in a wide variety of television shows, films and plays, although he is perhaps best known by his fans as the voice of George Stobbart in the Broken Sword series of video games. When I first started AMO, I made a wishlist of people I wanted to interview and over the past two years I have been lucky enough to speak with many of them. Rolf Saxon has always been top of the list and I am therefore delighted to present a recent interview with him where we discussed his acting career and all things Broken Sword!

Broken Sword is a title synonymous with adventure games fans around the world, having spawned numerous sequels and establishing itself as one of the most loved and successful game franchises of all time. This month, the director’s cut of the original game Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars finally saw a release on PC and Mac, proving that there is still life in the title fourteen years later. However, in 2006 The Angel of Death, the most recent addition to the Broken Sword canon, came and went without so much as a blip on the gaming radar. Now, the time feels just right to take a step back and remember the one that got away. But does it live up to its older and more popular siblings?

It’s been great seeing a resurgence of the old style adventure games recently. I’m admittedly pretty terrible at them, and fairly resentful of anything that makes me think of something more complex than what to have for dinner, but as a gamer it was great to see the much loved point and click adventure genre make such a comeback last year.
I’ve got very fond memories of struggling through Discworld Noir, whilst The Feeble Files remains near the top of my satisfying completion list. And now, for the bargain price of £2.99 on iTunes (and by this I mean buy it, you loon) you get to enjoy one of the most loved adventure games ever released…
