GAME REVIEW – Goldeneye 007 (Nintendo Wii)

By Stewart Sutherland

Goldeneye 007 Wii

In 1997, Rareware released Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64 to rave reviews. Based on the blueprint of the film itself, it sold well over 8 million copies and set the groundwork for all console first-person shooters to come after it. It also set the bar for any subsequent Bond games incredibly high. Maybe it was the over-powered James Bond who could carry an entire arsenal and fire two weapons at the same time, or the classic multiplayer mode that guaranteed players good competition between themselves and their friends. Whatever the reason, you would be hard pressed to find a James Bond game released since that was as much fun to play. Now, thirteen years after its debut, Activision releases their own remake of Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo Wii… and it’s different enough to become a classic game all on its own.

GAME REVIEW – Broken Sword: Shadow Of The Templars – The Director’s Cut (Nintendo Wii, PC Digital Download)

By Marty Mulrooney

BrokenSwordDC

Broken Sword: The Shadow Of The Templars (known as Circle Of Blood in the United States) is a point-and-click adventure game that was first released on PC way back in November 1996. One of the greatest adventure games of all time, it has been re-released many times over the years, including a PlayStation port in December 1996 and a Game Boy Advance port in March 2002. Finally, the game was re-released as a Director’s Cut for Nintendo Wii in March 2009, before finally returning to PCs everywhere in August 2010. AMO will be focusing on these final two versions of the game for our review, although please note that it is also available, albeit in slightly altered form, for both Nintendo DS and iPhone (iPhone version reviewed here).

GAME REVIEW – Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Wii)

By Stewart Sutherland

SuperMarioGalaxy2

Super Mario Galaxy is the number one game on Nintendo Wii. Case closed. But did you know that when it was released, a lot of ideas were left out of the final product? Initially, the developers decided to gather these extra areas and galaxies and re-release the original as Super Mario Galaxy 1.5, one year later. Yet it turned out the entire production team had their own ideas for galaxies, worlds, items and areas. Eventually, the release date was pushed back a full two and a half years and these ideas gave birth to a brand new title: Super Mario Galaxy 2. Finally, the sequel to the greatest Wii game ever has arrived in 2010. But does it have the same chemistry that made the original game the best on the system?

GAME REVIEW – Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People (Nintendo Wii)

By Stewie Sutherland

Strong-Bad

Telltale Game’s first attempt at making a game for a console (alongside a PC version),  Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People did one of two things: if you were like me, you probably saw it and thought it looked bright and funny, maybe staring a wrestler with a Mexican accent and involving all kinds of shenanigans. For anyone who would spare a bit of time to check out Homestarrunner.com though, it was a dream come true. And so, while it may be a bit late, let’s take a look  back at The Brother Chaps’ and Telltale Games’ joint game “for cool and attractive people – but you can play too!”
