GAME REVIEW – Beyond A Steel Sky (PlayStation 5)

Beyond a Steel Sky PlayStation 5

Beyond a Steel Sky is a story-driven adventure game originally released on Apple Arcade and PC in 2020, which Alternative Magazine Online’s review described as “a refreshing throwback that feels thoroughly modern and should be experienced by any self-respecting fan of the genre.” A sequel to the 1994 cult classic Beneath a Steel Sky, this follow-up – which is set 10 years later, with Robert Foster returning to Union City to track down a kidnapped child – was recently released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles and Nintendo Switch.

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered (aka Sam & Max Season Two) is a five-episode point-and-click adventure game (collected here as a complete package) starring everyone’s favourite six-foot-tall canine detective in a suit and his hyperkinetic rabbity-thing sidekick. Following on from last year’s stellar remaster of Sam & Max Save the World, the Skunkape Games team has once again taken a classic from the Telltale Games archives and given it a fresh lick of modern paint.

Mutropolis is a science fiction comedy point-and-click adventure game developed by Pirita Studio, with Application Systems Heidelberg (Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet, Unforeseen Incidents, Lamplight City) serving as co-developer and worldwide publisher. The debut game of Madrid-based artists Beatriz Gascón and Juan Pablo González, players take control of geeky archaeologist Henry Dijon as he travels to the abandoned planet Earth to find his kidnapped professor and the long-lost city of Mutropolis.
