GAME REVIEW – Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (PSN/XBLA)

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is an old school side-scrolling beat ‘em up based within the Scott Pilgrim universe. For those unfamiliar with Scott Pilgrim, he is the titular hero of his own series of graphic novels created by Bryan Lee O’Malley, which were recently adapted for the big screen by director Edgar Wright in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (reviewed here). This downloadable PSN/XBLA game is a tie-in of sorts, taking its art direction directly from the source material, with input from both O’Malley and Wright. The end result is a delightful blend of faux-retro excellence that is both addictively compulsive and a stark reminder of gaming years gone by.

GAME REVIEW – LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Xbox 360)

Sixty years old, LEGO is a brand name that almost everyone in the world should be familiar with by now. The construction toy of choice for any and all children, over the past few years the company has also loaned it’s product to other markets, such as animated films and video games. Even if you’ve never played a LEGO game before, it’s been impossible not to notice the steady stream of titles from the franchise. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman and now even Rock Band have all had the plastic make-over. Their success is hard to ignore. So, when the attendant at my local retailer (EB) recommended LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, I figured I’d finally see what all the fuss was about.

ALTERNATIVE MUSINGS – Did GOG.com’s PR Stunt Succeed Or Go Too Far?

One of AMO’s favourite digital download sites – GOG.com  – suddenly shut down last Sunday (19th September) without warning, leaving its community members feeling an immense sense of loss and confusion. Many customers were angry, whilst others claimed this news was merely a cleverly worded way of moving out of the site’s beta stage and celebrating GOG.com’s upcoming two year birthday. Thankfully, with new information made available to us via a recent live online press conference (which took place earlier this afternoon), AMO can now reveal that the latter is true and GOG.com’s death was indeed a hoax. But was this a genuinely clever PR stunt or one that went too far?
