Earlier this year, AMO reviewed Cathy Brett’s illustrated teen novel Ember Fury, describing it as “an enjoyable, wonderfully illustrated light read.” We weren’t the only ones impressed either: Ember Fury was recently shortlisted for The Young Minds Book Award. Her latest novel, a darkly comic horror story about a teenage ghost called Scarlett Dedd, was released in September 2010. AMO recently caught up with Cathy to have a chat about both books and her plans for Halloween…

BOOK REVIEW – Dracula’s Heir (An Interactive Mystery)

Dracula’s Heir is an interactive mystery book written by Sam Stall and illustrated by Roland Sarkany. In a similar vein to Batman: Murder At Wayne Manor (reviewed here), readers of Dracula’s Heir must study interactive clues – such as the original first chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula – to discover who is responsible for a series of grisly murders and uncloak the new nosferatu… perfect reading for Halloween!

The Stoning Of Soraya M. is a harrowing drama adapted from French-Iranian journalist Freidoune Sahebjam’s 1990 book of the same name, directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Based on a shocking true story, American actor James Caviezel (The Passion Of The Christ, Déjà Vu) portrays journalist Sahebjam himself, caught up in the aftermath of a conspiracy that eventually led to the brutal stoning of an innocent woman, Soraya Manutchehri, the day before his arrival. As the cover-up slowly begins to unravel, Soraya’s aunt Zahra tells Sahebjam – and his tape recorder – everything, even as the conspirators close in…
