By Marty Mulrooney

GuybrushSerious

After every new episode of Tales Of Monkey Island is released, Alternative Magazine Online of course posts a review. However, what we shall also be exclusively doing is asking Guybrush Threepwood voice actor Dominic Armato a few episode-specific questions every month, so that our readers can get some further insight to accompany the reviews. This month, it is of course all about the fourth chapter in Tales Of Monkey Island, entitled The Trial And Execution Of Guybrush Threepwood…

FILM REVIEW – Evil Dead II

By Duncan Voice

evil-dead2-posterWe might not realise it, but we all owe Sam Raimi something. Be it for the superb Spiderman 1&2 (I’ve banished number 3 to the Room 101 of my mind), a newly developed phobia of buttons thanks to the fantastic Drag Me To Hell, or my favourite collection of horror films, The Evil Dead trilogy.

Most importantly, he thrust the man with the most animated chin in the world onto us (no, not Jimmy Hill), the brilliant Bruce Campbell.

For this short piece, I must warn, I’m pretty much going to gush about why Evil Dead II is my favourite horror film of all time. Continue reading

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Jan-Andrew Henderson (Award Winning Author And Founder Of Edinburgh Ghost Tour Company Black Hart Entertainment)

By Marty Mulrooney

janhendersonOn a recent holiday with my girlfriend in Edinburgh (Scotland, UK), I went on a ghost tour that truly chilled me to the bone. The City Of The Dead Haunted Graveyard Tour seemed fun enough to begin with, but soon I was feeling icy cold, panicked and even thought somebody touched my neck! (Nobody was there, I checked!) Please bear in mind that I started the tour as a somewhat dubious participant!

The graveyard itself was spooky enough, but when our guide opened the gates to the Black Mausoleum at the rear of the site (closed off from the public due to random fainting supposedly caused by the Mackenzie Poltergeist) I immediately felt uneasy and quite spooked out!

I found the tour fascinating and even bought a book about the supernatural goings-on in the area by Jan-Andrew Henderson, the founder of the tour company (Black Hart Entertainment).

Just in time for Halloween, Alternative Magazine Online now has the great pleasure to speak to J. A. Henderson directly, and find out some more about the tours that the Sunday Times recommended in their review as:

The WEIRDEST history with the WILDEST stories and WICKEDEST humour! Continue reading

Site Update – What Do YOU Think Of The Changes Being Made?

By Marty Mulrooney

Hey guys! Today, we hit a milestone with our 17,000th visitor! I am amazed how Alternative Magazine Online has grown, from what was basically a small blog, into a fully functioning site. We also recently took on another writer, bringing the count to four including myself. Welcome to the site Stewart Sutherland!

What does this mean for you, the reader? Well we have a wider range of topics we can write about. All the major games consoles are now covered, as shown recently by our Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 coverage, as well as our continuing PC coverage of course. It also means our other coverage (e.g film and book reviews) can come from more than a single voice, providing even more alternative views… which is what the site is all about!

Also, due to some bad times with my own computer dying recently, I have now upgraded to a brand new machine, and will be installing Windows 7 later this week. Again, this means the site can move with the times in many exciting new ways. Continue reading
