GAME REVIEW – Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People (Nintendo Wii)

Telltale Game’s first attempt at making a game for a console (alongside a PC version),  Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People did one of two things: if you were like me, you probably saw it and thought it looked bright and funny, maybe staring a wrestler with a Mexican accent and involving all kinds of shenanigans. For anyone who would spare a bit of time to check out Homestarrunner.com though, it was a dream come true. And so, while it may be a bit late, let’s take a look  back at The Brother Chaps’ and Telltale Games’ joint game “for cool and attractive people – but you can play too!”

GAME REVIEW – Limbo (Xbox Live Arcade)

Almost a year ago, my very first review for AMO was for the terrific ‘Splosion Man, one of the highlights of last year’s Xbox Live Summer of Arcade. Kicking off proceedings this year is another puzzle game with a difference, the intriguing, monochromatic platformer Limbo.

FILM REVIEW – Inception

Once every so often a film hits cinemas and changes the landscape forever. Whether it is through the use of special effects, star power, scripting or acting, some films are immediately lifted to the pantheon of greats and set a new precedent. The Matrix set the tone for post-millennial Hollywood with its dizzying mix of computer graphics, story and mythology building – at least until those two awful sequels surfaced. This past year may have witnessed two such landmark events. December 2009 saw the release of Avatar, the special effects spectacle that broke box-office records. Summer 2010 has Inception.

DeathSpank is the creation of Ron Gilbert, one of the brilliant minds responsible for the perennial AMO favourite Monkey Island series. His development team Hothead Games released the well received Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice Of Darkness – Episode One back in 2008. Their latest title is DeathSpank, a downloadable only hack and slash adventure… and it’s bloody funny!
