GAME NEWS – Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse Kickstarter Announced

When Alternative Magazine Online interviewed Broken Sword voice actor Rolf Saxon in 2011, he hinted at a fifth – and perhaps final – instalment in the award-winning adventure game series. At 2pm today (23rd August 2012), Broken Sword 5 was officially announced by video game designer and Revolution Software co-founder/managing director Charles Cecil. George Stobbart – that’s two b’s, and two t’s – will return with Nico Collard in Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse. The catch? They can only do it with your help.

That’s right, Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign that will run until Saturday 22nd September 2012 at 8:30am EDT, with a $400,000 goal.

When a mysterious painting is stolen during an armed raid on a Paris gallery, George and Nico are thrown by chance into the investigation together. From Paris to London and beyond, the trail becomes a race against time as dark forces from Europe’s turbulent past are woken from their slumber. Broken Sword characters old and new are encountered – but who can George and Nico trust? The journey they are on reveals a conspiracy as old as the written word, whose ancient heresies will cause innocent blood to spill once more…

Charles Cecil has assembled many of the original Revolution crew, who will be working on the game alongside artists that have worked at Disney, Dreamworks, Nickelodeon, Universal, Aardman, Sony and 20th Century Fox.

Rolf Saxon will reprise his role as George Stobbart and will be joined by several other – currently unannounced – former voice actors from the series. The game will feature 2D backgrounds, with game characters ‘created and animated in 3D and then pre-rendered and saved as 2D frames.’ Delivered in full HD, the game has been confirmed for PC, Mac, Apple iPhone/iPad, Android and Linux formats, with an estimated Q1 2013 release date.
