Batman Arkham Aylum was finally released yesterday, although unfortunately my copy almost didn’t come, and when I finally did get my hands on it, it had been damaged in the post. Luckily, I managed to get hold of a replacement today. So I decided to upload our first video post here (and also some pictures) at Alternative Magazine Online to show people exactly what is inside the Collector’s Edition (UK version) and also to explain how it differs from the USA version…
Overall a slight disappointment, although I am sure some collectors and Batman fans will get a kick from the extras.
Update: It turns out that the American Collector’s Edition box is plastic, not metal as I originally thought! Sorry for the mixup. Still looks very cool though, and a lot more durable than the cardboard case we got in the UK…
To conclude, some pictures…
- View from the front of the Collector’s Edition
- View of the Collector’s Edition from the back
- The slightly disappointing heavy-duty plastic Batarang replica
- The rest of the contents includes a making-of dvd, Arkham Inmates Journal Booklet, and the downloadable challenge map "Crime Alley"
- The slightly misleading original advert for the UK Collector’s Edition. The Batarang looks metallic and the game is in a regular PS3 case
- The USA Collector’s Edition gets a proper slipcase for the game and a leather-bound Arkham Asylum Journal, all held in a stylish metallic box (Update: It is actually a PLASTIC box, although still looks a lot cooler and more durable than my version!)
So what do you guys think? Was it worth the extra money I spent over the regular edition (£15)? And did us Brits get ripped off compared to our American Cousins? Let Alternative Magazine Online know your thoughts in the comments! (Full written review for the PS3 version of the game coming soon!)
Update: The full Alternative Magazine Online review for Batman: Arkham Asylum is now available to read here!
Wow it doesn’t even have a slip case for the game 0.o I was gonna buy this but buying an inferior collectors ed always seems a little pointless.

Sometimes it just pays more to be keen on something: little beauties like this seem to come exclusively for pre-orders. I snagged my Arkham Asylum for ps3 about a good week or so after the release – a fabulous game (though I mightve injuried my chair from some frustrated venting punches with the Combat Challenges) and well recieved. Things like this gorgeous collectors set just make the deal so much more sweeter.
