Alan Wake, Remedy Entertainment’s first venture since Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne, wasn’t exactly the gaming world’s best kept secret upon its release earlier this year. The hype machine surrounding the title, plus an ambitious viral marketing campaign, created sky-high expectations that would be difficult to fulfil. Thankfully, Finland’s finest have succeeded, by creating one of the most cinematic and eerie gaming experiences to date.

Almost a year ago, my very first review for AMO was for the terrific ‘Splosion Man, one of the highlights of last year’s Xbox Live Summer of Arcade. Kicking off proceedings this year is another puzzle game with a difference, the intriguing, monochromatic platformer Limbo.

GAME REVIEW – Red Dead Redemption (PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360)

With AMO still growing every day, it is sometimes difficult for us to get our gaming reviews out the door as quickly as we would like, especially with huge titles such as Red Dead Redemption. On the plus side, this can often give us a far more extensive amount of time than our competitors to fully complete a game and offer a clearheaded verdict once the hype-leaden dust clouds have settled. For players who have already finished the game and newcomers finally ready to bite the bullet, this multi-format review will cover RDR’s single and multiplayer modes in-depth, on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

DeathSpank is the creation of Ron Gilbert, one of the brilliant minds responsible for the perennial AMO favourite Monkey Island series. His development team Hothead Games released the well received Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice Of Darkness – Episode One back in 2008. Their latest title is DeathSpank, a downloadable only hack and slash adventure… and it’s bloody funny!
