FILM REVIEW – One Life (DVD)

One Life DVD

One Life is a major feature length production from BBC Earth Films, narrated by actor Daniel Craig and directed by Michael Gunton and Martha Holmes from the BBC Natural History Unit. More than four years in the making and put together from over 10,000 hours of incredible animal footage, the film has been created for a family audience and reveals the universal bonds that connect all living creatures on our planet.

The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp as protagonist Paul Kemp, follows the booze fuelled journey of a newspaper journalist making a new start on the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico in the 1960s. Directed by Bruce Robinson, the film is adapted from the novel by the eccentric and brilliant Hunter S. Thompson, who also penned the cult classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

FILM REVIEW – Potiche

Potiche

Potiche is a French-Belgian comedy directed by François Ozon, starring Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu. Set during 1977 and based on the play of the same name by Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre Grédy, Potiche tells the story of Suzanne Pujol (Deneuve), the ‘trophy housewife’ of wealthy umbrella factory owner Robert Pujol (Fabrice Luchini). When Robert’s factory workers go on strike due to unfair working conditions and take him hostage, Suzanne is forced to step in and manage the business herself. Taking everyone by surprise, she proves herself to be an assertive, resourceful and above all, fair boss. But when Robert returns, it immediately becomes clear that he has no intention whatsoever of allowing his wife to remain in charge…
