Essential Killing is an award-winning political action thriller helmed by Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski. It stars Vincent Gallo as Mohammed, a man captured by the US military in Afghanistan after killing three Americans, before being sent to a secret detention centre in Europe. When the truck he is being transported in crashes and rolls over, he escapes into an icy, snowy wilderness, far removed from the desert home he once knew. Hunted down by US army forces, Mohammed must do whatever it takes to survive against the odds…

FILM REVIEW – Tracker

Tracker is a 2010 British/New Zealand action-thriller directed by British film and television director Ian Sharp. Set in 1903 New Zealand, Tracker stars Ray Winstone as Arajan van Diemen, an Afrikaner veteran of the Boer War and master tracker, who is offered a bounty to capture Kereama (Temuera Morrison), a Māori seafarer accused of killing a British soldier. Tracker was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK by Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment.

FILM REVIEW – White Material

White Material is a 2009 French film directed by Claire Denis, starring Isabelle Huppert and Christopher Lambert. It tells the story of Maria (Huppert), a white woman in an unnamed African country who is desperately struggling to claw back control over her failing coffee plantation, amidst rising levels of danger and violence.

BLU-RAY REVIEW – Ponyo Limited Deluxe Edition + DVD

Optimum Home Entertainment have just released a special Limited Deluxe Edition (+ DVD copy) of Studio Ghibli’s most recent masterpiece, Ponyo, on Blu-ray. I reviewed the film for AMO when it was originally in the cinema, so I wasn’t planning to review the home release when it arrived. However, once I got my hands on this Limited Deluxe Edition I knew I would have to share my thoughts on this delightful set with as many people as I possibly could!
