BOOK REVIEW – I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells

Aimed at teenage readers, I Am Not A Serial Killer is Dan Wells’ debut novel. Yet, like all good books should be, it can be read and enjoyed by older readers too. That’s right! Parents who thought Harry Potter encouraged witchcraft, you now have something else to moan about. Because I have just read a book aimed at younger readers that is scary, funny and perhaps most importantly, all about serial killers. It is also so well written that as a twenty-something Stephen King fan, I can still appreciate it.

BOOK REVIEW – Studio Ghibli (Kamera Books) by Colin Odell & Michelle Le Blanc

Western fans of the animation masters at Studio Ghibli will no doubt agree that, somewhat disappointingly, information about the studio is often severely lacking beyond the special features available to us on DVD. I was therefore highly intrigued when I noticed that Kamera Books were about to release Studio Ghbili: The Films of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. But would this finally be the book to accurately detail Ghibli’s history down on paper for English-speaking fans, or merely become a rehash of what we already know?

STAGE REVIEW – The Woman In Black, The Lowry Theatre, 22/01/2010

Ever since a recent trip to Edinburgh, a city steeped in rich paranormal legend, I have had a newfound interest in ghost stories. I had also heard that The Woman In Black was one of the best (and scariest) ghost stories to be performed live on stage, so I was pretty excited to be heading to the theatre to see it on a cold Friday evening, the night after my birthday no less.

With 2010 now upon us whether we like it or not, I realised that it would probably be a good idea to look back at what made 2009 such a special year. Sure, it saw the birth of AMO, but where would we have been in the first place without so many great games, books and films to review? I can’t claim to have seen everything out there worth seeing last year, but I tried my best during the course of running this site to pour over as much cool stuff as possible.
