MUSIC REVIEW – John Mayer Live, Manchester Apollo, 15/01/2010

By Marty Mulrooney

I had the great pleasure of seeing John Mayer for a second time last Friday at the Apollo Theatre in Manchester, UK. I recently reviewed John’s latest album Battle Studies on AMO here, where I described it as a grower. Keeping that conclusion in mind, I was certainly very eager to see how these songs would sound when performed live.

GAME PREVIEW – Star Trek Online (Open Beta, PC)

By Duncan Voice

USS Morning Glory

Perhaps it’s somewhat sacrilegious to mention in the opening paragraph of a Star Trek Online article, but I’m a huge Star Wars nerd. I’ve got the Force FX lightsabers, a hundred and one action figures from the 1980’s, a good number of t-shirts (totally cool in a retro way of course), and I want to karate chop Jar Jar Binks right on the tongue.

I can’t claim to have seen everything out there worth seeing last year, but I tried my best during the course of running this site to pour over as much cool stuff as possible. I would therefore be delighted to share the cream of the crop with you based on my foray into the world of online journalism during 2009. Read on!

THE SNOWMAN – A British Christmas Classic

By Marty Mulrooney

TheSnowman1

With Christmas nearly upon us, I thought I would do a quick post about one of the greatest Christmas films of all time. Based on the 1978 Raymond Briggs children’s book, The Snowman is a 1982 animated winter classic.

Shown originally on Christmas Eve ‘82 on Channel 4 in the UK, it has since been shown every single year. A review would be pointless; this is a perfect, if not slightly bittersweet adaptation.

What I do intend to do is offer a few good reasons why you should give it a watch this Christmas, British or not. Oh, and Merry Christmas from Alternative Magazine Online!
