FEATURE ARTICLE – Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust, R.I.P Gene Hunt

By Marty Mulrooney

AshestoAshes

Life On Mars was always going to be a tough act to follow. It fast became one of the most critically acclaimed and best loved British television shows of the Noughties upon release, no doubt due in no small part to John Simm’s highly endearing portrayal of central protagonist DCI Sam Tyler. When Ashes to Ashes arrived in 2008, many were wary of the new spin-off series muddying an already fitting close. Furthermore, could Keeley Hawes as DCI Alex Drake be as successful in the 1980’s as Sam Tyler had been in the 1970’s? We needn’t have worried. The final episode of Ashes to Ashes aired last Friday and it was absolutely incredible. Hopefully, I can now share a little bit of that magic with AMO’s readers by offering my thoughts on the ending. Warning: Spoilers.

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Dave Lord (Lead Singer, Ambershift)

By Joseph Viney

Left to right: Ben Clement - Guitar, Phil Hodgson - Drums, Dave Lord - Vocals/Bass, Andy Green - Keys

Emerging from the North East of England, Ambershift are keen to blaze a trail across the country. Taking their inspiration from acts such as The Police, The Smiths and New Order, Ambershift want to be the group that defines the soundtrack to your life. Soldiering on without any of the privileges enjoyed by other bands such as expensive PR and a fear-inducing management team, Ambershift are doing things the old-fashioned way; travelling in packed vans, lugging their own gear and building up a fan base one gig at a time.

Lead singer and bass-player Dave Lord has kindly taken some time out of his busy schedule to tell AMO more about the band.

INTERVIEW – In Conversation With Lukasz Kukawski (GOG.com)

By Marty Mulrooney

Lukasz_Kukawski As many of AMO’s readers will no doubt be aware, I am a huge fan of old PC games. Recently, I have been getting my fix via the wonderful website GOG.com, created by a group of passionate gamers who specialise in Good Old Games. Last week, I was lucky enough to be able to pick the mind of their PR man Lukasz Kukawski, to ask him more about the site and old games in general. Here is what he had to say!
