MUSIC REVIEW – Black Francis: Nonstoperotik

If Neil Young is the much vaunted ‘Godfather Of Grunge’ then Black Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black, real name Charles Michael Kittridge Thomson IV) must be at least an uncle. As leader of the inspirational Pixies, Black’s iconic nails-on-a-blackboard voice, twisted guitar hooks and demented lyrics set the blueprint for albums like Nirvana’s Nevermind; penned by self-confessed Pixies obsessive Kurt Cobain. With the Pixies now reduced to nothing more than a touring heritage act dispensing the same old set night after night, Black’s solo albums are where he nurtures his undeniable talent.

FILM REVIEW – How To Train Your Dragon (3D Version)

Steven Spielberg’s old buddies at DreamWorks Studios, boasting a catalogue featuring the likes of Shrek, Madagascar and Kung-Fu Panda, are back with their latest instalment of animation wonderment.  However this time around the studio has opted to give their latest offering How to Train Your Dragon the fangle-dangle 3D treatment.

GAME REVIEW – Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

Why am I reviewing a game that came out more than two years ago?  Because Super Mario Galaxy is (to date) the greatest game on the Nintendo Wii. Case closed. Released in 2007 as a Christmas title, the game has sold over 8 million copies, won a BAFTA award for Game of the Year and is hailed by Guinness World Records as Number 29 of their ‘50 Must Own Console Games’.
