GAME REVIEW – Tomb Raider (PlayStation 3)

By Marty Mulrooney

Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is an appropriately named reboot for one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. There’s no need for a suffix – after four previous Tomb Raider games developed by Crystal Dynamics, it seems that the time has come for a fresh start and a reconstructed origin story for the most well-loved and instantly recognisable female video game character in history. The year is 2013 and Lara Croft has finally become relevant again. Hot pants and dual pistols have been replaced by anguish, pain, a bow… and a pickaxe. From the wreckage of the ship Endurance, a survivor is born.

Alternative Magazine Online’s review will cover the PC version played with an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows.

By Marty Mulrooney

Kane & Lynch 2 Dog Days

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a video game destined to become notorious not only for its copious amounts of bloody violence and mature subject matter, but for the way it has divided critics upon release. Destuctoid.com gave the Xbox 360 version a scathing 1.0 out of 10 review, whereas Edge – a notoriously tough marker – awarded the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions with 6 out of 10 each. Although I never picked up the original game (the demo’s cover system felt far too broken) the aesthetic values of the sequel really appealed to me, so I ignored the somewhat negative reviews and picked up the Limited Edition for less than half the RRP (rather worryingly) only two weeks after its UK release.

GAME REVIEW – Just Cause 2 (Xbox 360)

By Duncan Voice

JustCause2Xbox360

I’ve been sitting on the fence about Just Cause 2 for so long now, I may need to visit a doctor to get the splinters removed from my rear end. I can’t decide if it’s the most fun I’ve ever had in a game, or if it’s the most frustrating. There is one thing however that’s certain, and it’s borderline offensive…
