The Virginia Opossum, also known as the North American Opossum, is the only marsupial found in North America.

Possums on the other hand, living in Australia, are marsupials as well, but from the order of Diprotodontia, which also includes Kangaroos and Wallabies! I always do my research :P

Since Kylie in the film is an Opossum with an American accent, and not a Possum with an Aussie accent, (Mr Fox uses the Latin, Didelphis Virginiana) it hints at an American location. :)
